The Welch Medical Library and Elsevier invite you attend an academic publishing workshop, where editors and publishers will share valuable insights into the process of scientific publishing.

Location: The West Lecture Hall, Ground Floor, Wood Basic Science Building (WBSB), 725 North Wolfe Street (Reception to follow on the second floor of the adjacent Welch Medical Library Building)

Please join us for an informative discussion of issues related to scientific publication, including developing your manuscript, the journal editorial process, copyright & open access, and how to promote your work once it's published.  A Q & A session featuring faculty editors in the basic sciences will follow the two featured speakers.  The event concludes with a reception in the newly renovated West Reading Room, on the 2nd floor of the Welch Medical Library building, adjacent to the Wood Basic Science Building.

Featured Speakers:

Rebecca Cooney, Ph.D. - North American Editor of The Lancet

In addition to her role as a senior editor, she writes for The United States of Health Blog (usa.thelancet.com).  Dr. Cooney received her degree in Psychology from Stanford University in 2007, where her graduate work focused on the neural basis of cognitive and affective processes and the intergenerational transmission of depression. She continued this line of functional imaging research as a postdoctoral fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute. She has published numerous academic papers and book chapters. Prior to joining The Lancet family in 2012, she worked as a research scientist supporting labs at Stanford, Columbia, and The University of Miami, and as the Assistant and Associate Editor of The Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.

Linda Gruner, Vice President & Publishing Director, Health & Medical Sciences, STM Journals, Elsevier

Linda Gruner has been with Elsevier for 25 years, during which she has progressed through a range of journal publishing roles. In her current position, Linda oversees a team of publishers managing more than 50 journals in health and medical sciences, including ophthalmology, urology, and several other specialties. In addition, Linda serves as the publisher of The Journal of Urology® and Urology Practice, which Elsevier publishes on behalf of the American Urological Association. In collaboration with Elsevier’s Journal Content Technology and Innovation teams, Linda has been engaged in mobile and online content development strategy. She also serves as an Elsevier representative on the National Library of Medicine - Publishers panel.
