Welch Library July-August Newsletter

The end of August brings us practically to the end of Summer.  Everyone is trying to grab those last warm rays along with a couple super-duper delicious Dairy Queen Peanut Buster Parfaits. Don’t try one because you can’t stop. Or maybe that’s just me who can’t stop. I bet by November we’ll all be missing the “summery treasures.”

Summer Transitions Around Campus

As Summer winds down, it feels as though the east Baltimore campus moves into a new gear. No, I’m not trying to rush us through August. For some, there are still vacation days and even a major holiday coming our way. All the fun and frolic are still out there, but everyone knows when fall arrives it brings a new level of engagement and activity.

If you think we’ve been busy just checking books in and out (no small feat!) then you’re sadly mistaken, my friend. First up, let’s get to a few eyebrow raising stories that darted across the past month’s cybersphere.

Hopkins Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Initiative

Last week I sat down in the Brody Learning Commons with David Reynolds, Manager of Scholarly Digital Initiatives, who’s promoting the upcoming changes regarding Hopkins new paperless Thesis and Dissertation initiative. David says “We’re calling this the ETD program—ETD stands for electronic theses and dissertations”.
